Lake Dunstan

We drew up this community vision for the future of Lake Dunstan on behalf of the Lake Dunstan Charitable Trust in 2022.

More than 600 people shared their ideas through surveys and workshops, and in local schools. Many said they value clean water, safe and family-friendly spaces, and tracks and trails that are easy for everyone to use. The report highlights concerns about lake weed, silt build-up and the need for better facilities like picnic areas, toilets and boat ramps. It suggests creating a clear masterplan to guide how the lake is looked after and setting up a group to manage this plan.

Overall, the goal is to keep Lake Dunstan clean, welcoming and well cared for, so it can be enjoyed for recreation, nature and community activities for many years to come.

In 2023 the Trust asked us to organise two further brainstorming sessions to discuss improvements locals would like to see on the waterfront area between Butchers Drive and the Clutha and Kawarau River junction. You can read the findings here.
