Hāwea
In late 2021 and 2022, Shaping Our Future worked with the Hāwea Community Association to explore how locals were feeling about the area growing so quickly. Through workshops and surveys, people shared a mix of views. Many were worried about Hāwea losing its character, while others were excited about new opportunities.
A group of volunteers pulled the feedback into a masterplan. This is a simple, visual guide to help shape future development. It’s not about pushing for more or less growth – it’s about making sure that when growth happens it reflects what the community cares about.
The report gives Hāwea people a shared direction and a clearer way forward. It has been passed to the HCA, who will use it to help guide future decisions and submissions.
