Climate resilience
In May 2019 we hosted community forums in Queenstown and Wānaka to tackle the climate change challenge. These workshops brought together over 80 residents to brainstorm a sustainable path forward for the district.
Participants identified urgent issues like the reliance on fossil fuels, the impact of high tourism numbers and a need to move away from growth as the only measure of success. Popular solutions included creating a carbon-zero transport network, encouraging self-sufficient food systems and adopting a circular economy where waste is designed out of the system. The goal is to ensure the region remains a beautiful, liveable place for future generations.
Following up on the report’s recommendations around food systems, in 2022 Nadia Lim and Carlos Bagrie joined us for a Locally Grown Food workshop, complete with shared meal.
