Kingston
The Kingston Community Visioning Report (2022) sets out a plan to help Kingston manage future growth, including around 900 new homes. Developed through public workshops, it reflects a strong desire from locals to have more say in how their town develops. The aim is for Kingston to become a well-designed, self-sufficient and sustainable community by 2050.
The report highlights key challenges such as power outages, limited public transport and the need for reliable drinking water, wastewater and stormwater systems. It suggests enabling local shops and medical services, exploring renewable energy options, improving safety on SH 6 and creating better transport links to Queenstown.
At its heart, the vision is about growing Kingston into an, independent town while protecting its authentic rural character, community spirit, and close connection to the natural environment as the population grows.
