The Energy Futures Report lays out a clear goal: help the Queenstown Lakes District build a smarter, stronger energy future by 2035. It started in 2013 with a public forum. A volunteer task force then studied the data, shared a draft with the community and presented their report to QLDC in 2015.
Their findings? Because the climate is tough and the district is remote, heating and travel are expensive. The task force focused on two main areas — buildings and transport. The report says we should go beyond basic building rules and design warmer, more efficient homes. It also calls for better public transport and park-and-ride options to cut back on fossil fuels.
In short, it’s a plan for smarter growth, not more of the same.
